About This Tour
As an archipelagic country, Indonesia has numerous harbours. Sunda Kelapa is the most prominent harbour in Jakarta and is full of historical significance. The Sunda Kelapa area is a place where time seems to stand still, preserving not only maritime heritage but also the history of Jakarta's founding. We will travel through time to Pasar Ikan (Fish Market), Sunda Kelapa Harbor, Museum Bahari (Maritime Museum), Syahbandar Tower, and VOC Shipyard. Walk along the coast of Jakarta and imagine scenes from the old days along this route. Despite the smell, you can experience how the fishermen work and how the fish are freshly sold in the Pasar Ikan. Moving on, we will picture how traders from all over the world anchored in the Sunda Kelapa Harbor in the past. Further, Museum Bahari and Syahbandar Tower offer insightful stories about how spices were traded in colonial times. Last but not least, we will visit the VOC Shipyard. The building was established around 1628 and served as the VOC's trading office and central complex. Despite its old-fashioned architecture, we know the building is sturdy enough to stand the test of time. Surrounded by water, you may imagine how it was full of ships in that area.
