Walking Tour of Monas
About This Tour
A walking tour of Sudirman Street will allow us to experience the blend of Jakarta's business district's modern pulse with glimpses of its cultural heritage. This walk will introduce you to more skyscrapers, including the Landmark Building, Wisma BNI 46, Wisma Indocement, Wisma KEIAI, Wisma Bumiputera, Astra Tower, and Da Vinci Tower. From the Karet Pedestrian Bridge (JPO), you will also see many famous skyscrapers. Prepare to be dwarfed by the impressive high-rises of Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD). You wouldn't mind the access to get here, since this area is so well served by public transportation. Nothing can stop you from learning about the stories behind the buildings. Besides buildings, we will see the Jenderal Sudirman Statue, a 12-metre bronze statue of our resilient national hero. Interesting how the statue's salute posture raised both pros and cons, as many believe that Jenderal Sudirman should not salute common people on Sudirman Street. Further, we will cross the JPO Karet, where we can learn about the buildings around it: Grand Sahid Jaya, Le Méridien, World Trade Centre, and Intiland Tower. Lastly, we will walk by the grand Sampoerna Strategic Square. After about 4 years of construction, the twin building was completed in 1997 and is owned by Danamon Land. The building was designed in a postmodern style by Henry N. Cobb and John Sullivan III. Later, in 2006, when it was owned by Sampoerna, the building was renovated by replacing the postmodern elements with neoclassical architecture.
