About This Tour
As a former Dutch colony, Indonesia has inherited many historical European buildings that still stand today. Batavia, the former capital of the Dutch Indies, became a hub for government buildings. Later, this area of such buildings was called the Old Town. This walk will be filled with the mesmerising scenery of old colonial-era buildings. We will walk by and learn the stories of Jakarta Kota Station, Jakarta History Museum, Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramics, Bank Indonesia Museum, Tjipta Niaga Building, Toko Merah, and N.V. Reiss & Co. Building. The tour begins at the Jakarta Kota Station. From the guide, we will learn the history of the station, including its former name, Bataviasche Ooster Spoorweg Maatschappij. From in front of the station, we can see many other old buildings in the surrounding area with histories that are related to one another. When you are at the famous Fatahillah Square, you will see many people gathering there. Enjoy the atmosphere this space offers, and take as many pictures as you like of the beautiful scene of old Dutch-style buildings. Lastly, the tour will end at the Acaraki jamu shop. They offer a new and modern way to enjoy an Indonesian traditional drink, jamu. Have yourself an Acaraki jamu to refresh your body.
